Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry is a method of semi-conscious sedation which relaxes the patient or makes the patient unaware of treatment. Sedation Dentistry is usually performed for visits that involve the extraction of wisdom teeth, but can be used for visits requiring other forms of treatment. Sedation Dentistry is great for patients who have a difficult time relaxing or feeling comfortable at the dentist.

Sedation Dentistry can also be used in longer procedures. This is particularly useful if the patient has a busy schedule and does not want to make several appointments or worry about prolonged pain. Many procedures may be completed in one visit with Sedation Dentistry. There are many different sedation options including:

  • Topical Anesthesia
  • Oral Sedation
  • Nitrous Oxide

Various options have different benefits. For instance, Nitrous Oxide completely leaves your body after application is stopped. Therefore, there are no prolonged effects on your body — allowing you to drive yourself home. It is important that you discuss these various options with your dentist prior to your appointment.
