RESTORATIVE DENTITSTRY

Even with proper care, your teeth can develop cavities, cracks, and other problems. Let Dr. Barry Cole fix trouble spots and rejuvenate your smile. Cosmetic restorations, like tooth-colored fillings and porcelain crowns, give us the capability to craft solid, attractive restorations that will withstand the test of time. Our goal for you as our patient is to achieve and preserve oral health. Sometimes this means that we have to alleviate pain or restore broken, worn teeth to improve your oral health. We believe in conservative treatment, so Dr. Barry Cole will remove as little of your original tooth structure as possible and will choose materials that blend with your natural smile. Patients can look forward to healthier, stronger smiles and long-term dental health after expert care at our practice. Some of our restorative treatments include:

  • Tooth colored fillings
  • Complete or partial dentures
  • Crowns
  • Bridges
  • Root canals
  • Implants
  • And much more...

Tooth Colored Fillings

Tooth colored fillings (composites) are a more natural look than traditional silver/mercury fillings (amalgams). The tooth colored material is cured by a special light, shaped, and then polished to match your teeth.

Composites also have several other advantages. Composites are bonded which requires less of the existing healthy tooth to be removed. This makes the resulting filling smaller than a normal amalgam filling.

Composites look and feel more natural and blend extremely well - making them perfect for front teeth, chipped or broken teeth, closing in gaps, decayed teeth or even worn teeth.

Composites are also environmentally friendly because they do not use mercury.

Crowns and Bridges

A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.

Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain (a tooth colored crown) are the most popular, because they resemble your natural teeth. They are highly durable and will last many years, but like most dental restorations, they may eventually need to be replaced. Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color of your teeth giving you a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile.

Reasons for crowns:

  • Broken or fractured teeth
  • Cosmetic enhancement
  • Decayed teeth
  • Fractured fillings
  • Large fillings
  • Tooth has a root canal

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is an excellent way to replace missing teeth.

There are several types of bridges. You and Dr. Barry Cole can discuss the best options for your particular case. The "traditional bridge" is the most popular type and is usually made of porcelain fused to metal. Porcelain fixed bridges are most popular because they resemble your natural teeth. This type of bridge consists of two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth.

Dental bridges are highly durable and will last many years, however they may need replacement or need to be re-cemented due to normal wear.

Reasons for a fixed bridge:

  • Fill space of missing teeth
  • Maintain facial shape
  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position
  • Restore chewing and speaking ability
  • Restore your smile
  • Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance.
